OLT Hearing Has Begun

ONTARIO LAND TRIBUNAL HEARING HAS BEGUN

Today, the Ontario Land Tribunal hearing on the Millcroft Greens application began. All participants made opening statements, including Chantal DeSereville on MAD's behalf.

The City of Burlington legal counsel presented the history of the Millcroft community, noting that it began with a discussion paper that Monarch (the builder) prepared over a 15-year period, which was then incorporated into the Official Plan (OPT 117). The plan was to build a neighbourhood with an 18-hole golf course meandering throughout. The golf course was strategically located within the development to provide natural stormwater management. It was the intent that the golf course would, through perpetuity, be private or public major parks and open space. To change this would result in a substantial loss in greenspace, loss of over 300 mature trees, loss of storm water management, and adversely change the character of the neighbourhood. Counsel also noted that the City is doing all that it can to address the current housing crisis in areas where development should occur.

Chantal reinforced, in her opening statement, the points that the City of Burlington counsel made against the application.

Counsel for Millcroft Greenspace Alliance outlined the significant storm water issues that will occur, should the application be approved.

The OLT hearing is scheduled to proceed over the next 18 days. The scheduled witnesses by day are available on the MAD website. To be an observer, please use the following link:
